Over 10 years ago, when my son entered junior high school, I discovered that while he possessed exceptional visual skills he was having difficulty spelling. Being a "techie", I wanted to create a software program that would allow him to utilize his strong visual talent while learning how to spell in a fun and entertaining way. I imagined the endless possibilities of a software program that would interact with my child and thus improve his ability to spell. I even believed that I would be able to interest schools in using this idea as a fundraising tool diverging from the traditional approach of selling sweets. At that time, I was ahead of my time but I never lost my desire
In January 2003, I attended an open house at a local magnet school for my granddaughter. I listened to the exciting new ways children learn and was saddened by the fact that for the school to implement such wonderful teaching methods they would need to raise additional funds. I realized that I could wait no longer. I must play an active role in providing the much needed financial support for my granddaughter and children everywhere. With the realization that an overwhelming number of homes now have some kind of personal computer, pocket pc or palm device, all of which are also being used as learning tools in the classroom, my idea came into focus. For I then realized that the technology is now in place to support the new way of fundraising...A Better Fundraiser.
